Book Description:
It’s been six weeks since angels of the apocalypse descended to demolish the modern world. Street gangs rule the day while fear and superstition rule the night. When warrior angels fly away with a helpless little girl, her seventeen-year-old sister Penryn will do anything to get her back.

Anything, including making a deal with an enemy angel.

Raffe is a warrior who lies broken and wingless on the street. After eons of fighting his own battles, he finds himself being rescued from a desperate situation by a half-starved teenage girl.

Traveling through a dark and twisted Northern California, they have only each other to rely on for survival. Together, they journey toward the angels’ stronghold in San Francisco where she’ll risk everything to rescue her sister and he’ll put himself at the mercy of his greatest enemies for the chance to be made whole again.

My Review:

Why did I wait so long to read this book? Angelfall is amazing! Probably one of my all time favorite books! There is a lot of hype about this book, but it's all with a good reason. There is just so much things to like in this book, and now when I think of it, I can't recall a single thing I didn't like. It is really an outstanding read, and Susan Ee has such a way with words that you simply can't stop reading.

Angelfall is set in a post-apocalyptic world where angels are the bad guys. They have occupied the Earth and there is a war ongoing. People are affraid to go out, they hide in their homes if they haven't left already and try to survive. When Penryn, her mother and her sister try to escape, bad luck founds them. They see a few angels cutting wings of another angel and beating him up. Penryn helps the angel, but that only makes the other angels angry and they take Paige, Penryn's little sister while their mother got away. Penryn decides to help Raffe, the beaten-up angel, so he can help her find her sister and that's where the adventure starts.

Penryn is such a lovable character. You simply love everything about her. She is real, kick-ass girl who knows how to fight, she is determinated, always keeping her focus on her goal and not letting anything distarct her, she is fierce, but there is also vulerability to her and sometimes you just want to hug her knowing what she's been through before the angel apocalypse. Her mother has a schizophrenia, her father left them and her sister is in wheelchair. She became very strong character having delt with all those things and by thus she bacame one of my favorite heroines of all time.

Raffe is by far my favorite angel, really, forget about Patch or Daniel Grigori. We don't know much about Raffe and I liked that there is such a mystery around him, but I can't help wanting to know more about him, about his world, about what's going on in his head. We know that he's very determinated, just like Penryn, he has a goal to put his wings back and to be whole again.

The romance in this book is secondary to the plot, something I very much appreciated. It builds slow, and it stays slow without much romantic thoughts, but it is still there. It is quite unimaginable how much meaning there was in every look, in every glance and how much it contributed to the story.

Ee has build such an interesting, unique and amazing world full of action, strange creatures and uniqe perception on angels. The ending coused a real rollercoaster of emotions in me, and even though I adored the whole book, the ending was my favorite part of the book. There are just so many unexpected things that happen that I found myself crying in one moment, and only 5 minutes after that, wanting to jump around of happines.

I'd recommend this book to everyone because it is not something you want to miss out.

Thanks to the amazing Aa'Ishah for joining me in this read-a-long.
